PERFORMANCY FORUM XXXV: Metaphysicality

Saturday, February 15th 2014

possession by ideological, ethical, psychological, and aesthetic fervor wracks the bodies of these lovelies, metaphysically describes the actualization of emotional healing. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN???!!!! The abstract and the pointedly political shake hands here and now. Noise is not nonsense, the voice, the banner, the microphone, the megaphone.

LOPI LAROE is a multi-media artist currently living in Brooklyn, NYC. Her Performance Work originated in improvisational dance and is rooted in theatrical performance. She activates constructed environments with kinetic compositions using props, projections and soundscapes to fabricate site specific installations. She explores themes of survival and disaster, evolution and the human condition through levity and gravitas. LaRoe was the founding director of a small performance venue in Santa Cruz, California called "What is Art?" The popular space had a 6 year run before it was shut down by the changing economic environment in that town in 2000. She migrated east to NYC in September of 2001, where she returned to her visual art roots and earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking in 2005. Her most recent endeavor was a totally DIY humanitarian relief effort called Domes for Haiti. She is currently juggling painting, performance and urban gardening. http://www.lopilaroe.com/

BORTS MINORTS Born into his 63rd life in 2006, Borts Minorts has lived in San Francisco, New York City and Los Angeles with an alumni of 17 MINORCHESTRAL member / musicians and 13 dancers. With 2 nominations from the S.F. Weekly for Best Experimental Music and loads of glowing press, Borts Minorts and his arsenal of spandex jumpsuits along with his home made instruments, take pride in blending the absolute weirdest structured chaotic musical concepts of Ornette Coleman and The Residents with the spirit and over the top showmanship of rock legends like David Lee Roth and Iggy Pop. Borts fits in nowhere and everywhere. Even the most jaded can't help but to leave a Borts show smiling! http://bortsminorts.tumblr.com/

CAITLIN BAUCOM received her MFA in Performance from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, and BA from The Evergreen State College. Her interdisciplinary performances indulge freely in divergent musical, poetic, performance and visual/technological practices. Recent performances and screenings include Chicago’s Defibrillator Gallery, Links Hall, and High Concept Laboratories; The Kinsey Institute, Bloomington, Indiana; Verge Fair, Miami Beach, Florida; Stockholm Fringe Festival, Stockholm, Sweden; and Dimanche Rouge Festival in Paris, France. In 2013 she is in residence at Soho20 Gallery in Manhattan, and the International Artist-in-Residence of the ACC Galerie Weimar and the City of Weimar, Germany. http://vimeo.com/caitlinbaucom
