PPL Help the Water

Years:
2012
Framing Text:

Jessica Bathurst, Brian McCorkle, Michael Newton and Esther Neff wearing only black socks and necklaces of marshmallows work hard to “help” the stagnant water of the Gowanus Canal for 4 hours while a grand art opening is happening in open ballroom and across a parkinglot. We are carrying bucketfuls of water downstream and performing cleansing rituals involving tubed meat, fire in a pot, engine oil containers, chain, paraffin, clowning, gatoride, and buckets suspended on PVC pipes.

Performed during “To the Stars on the Wings of an Eel,” curated by George Sferra. Documentation by Geraldo Mercado.
